Synopsis

J Drama : Nodame Cantabile

Synopsis

Based on the hit comic book by Tomoko Ninomiya, this is a fun-filled quirky romantic story of two very opposite people.

Megumi Noda, or “Nodame” is a piano student at Momogaoka College of Music. An extremely talented pianist who wants to be a kindergarten teacher, she prefers playing by ear rather than reading the music score. She is messy and disorganized, takes baths several days apart and loves to eat, sometimes stealing her friend’s lunchbox when it is filled with delicacies.

Shinichi Chiaki, is Momogaoka’s top student. Born into a musical family, he is talented in piano and violin and has secret ambitions to become a conductor. An arrogant multi-lingual perfectionist who once lived abroad in the music capitals of the world as a young boy, he feels mired in Japan because of a childhood phobia.

They meet by accident. Nodame quickly falls in love, but it takes much longer for Chiaki to even begin to appreciate Nodame’s unusual qualities. Their relationship causes them both to develop and grow. Because of Nodame, Chiaki got the opportunity to lead a student orchestra and begins to have a broader appreciation of people's musical abilities. Because of Chiaki, Nodame faces her fears and enters a piano competition. Opportunities open up as both begin taking risks, stretching themselves far more than they ever thought possible.

J Drama : Hotaru No Hikari

Hotaru works for a famous interior design company. It's a glamorous job but Hotaru's private life is totally the opposite of glamorous. Have you ever feel regret and want to go back to redo the event?

Iwase Ken and Yoshida Rei are childhood friends. They are always beside each other. Little does Ken realize, he actually likes Rei a lot. But it’s too late; Rei is marrying someone else. He regrets on not telling her his feelings back then. “I want to go back~”

Suddenly, a man appears, claiming to be a fairy o.o; Seeing how pitiful Ken is, he decides to grant his wish. Hallelujah Chance!

Ken goes back to his high school years. He gets a second chance to confess to Rei.

He is laid back and a loose person, who shouts, “NOOOO” a lot. Besides falling in love and showing more expressions, he’s like YamaPi’s other characters except for Akira.

YamaPi’s face is SO cute when he freaks out!!! He runs a lot in this drama. He ran more than these scenes shown here! *pats him* There is one episode where he wears a shirt that says, “I have great character” XD I wonder if that refers to anything… LOL Sometimes, I think about the light that keeps shining on him. “Wow, he’s going to go blind like that..” This is the first drama that I’ve been keeping up with at the same time when it airs in Japan. It was fun because YamaPi wrote about these stuff when he filmed it, like the karaoke place, the running, the water balloons, etc. I like to see what he was referring to when watching the drama.

Rei first met Ken in elementary school. Ever since that incident occurred, they started to hang out together. Rei is active and can be a competitive person.

Eri can be a bit self-centered. She often falls in love. She likes guys who are tall and athletic. Her dream is to find the right guy to spend the rest of her life with.

Mikio is the most mature out of the group. He’s the first one in the group who has a steady girlfriend. He wants to be a film maker. He tries really hard to become one.

Tsuru is…short… He’s usually a target to make fun of because of his height. He likes Eri. He joins the baseball club and tries to grow taller, just to win her heart.

Oh, that marathon guy. He’s awesome!!

And there’s this store manager who doesn’t have any customers except for the five main people…

After Ken goes back in time, he realizes his attitudes of his past self, the things he shouldn’t have done and hasn’t treasure them enough. He was careless and always make Rei upset. He decides change his surroundings for a better future.

There is another theme to this drama besides romance. And that is: friendship. The five people have known each other for a very long time. From high school to the present. Good times, bad times. All spent together. The New Year scene is one of my favorites. “Happy New Year Part 2!” “Happy New Year Part 3!” It really show how much they care.

Japanese Series : Nurse Aoi

Following the law or saving a life. If you have to choose only one, which one would you choose?

Misora Aoi is a nurse who works in the emergency room. But because of an incident, she is demoted and transfers to another hospital. This hospital is worse than her previous workplace. There are unskilled doctors and there are some who only care about gaining profit. After seeing this, Misora decides to change this hospital. And she learns more about moral values from there.

Misora assists Nurse Komine with the assigned patients. She treats the patients like family. She showers them with care and kindness.

Komine is a senior nurse who tries to keep the hospital going. She can be bossy but she does it for the good of the people. She yells at the nurses for slacking off. She yells at the patients for not following the rules for their health. At first, she gives Misora a cold shoulder. But she starts to loosen up after knowing her better. She helps Misora when it is needed.

Takagi is preverted but a good doctor. He tries to save as many lives as he can. He still haven’t given up on curing this one patient, who has been in coma for several years..

Koyama Keiichirou has a minor role, even though his character seems like should be together with Misora. Kitazawa is a part-timer. He doesn’t really care about the hospital, nor the co-workers pay much attention to him. He hopes to become a musician. *Squee* He can sing!! ^.^ Anyways, Kitazawa is…just there. He has been of some help though.

The main characters usually hang out in a small restaurant. The owner of the restaurant looks familiar. “I’ve seen him somewhere, but I can’t recognize him.” I gave up and looked at the credits. Sainei Ryuji! “No wonder!” The banchou listens to their stories and joins in the conversation.

As I mentioned before, there is a doctor who is not skilled, and another who only cares about profits. There is only one good doctor. Each of them (plus a few nurses) has his (or her) own personal problems, which will be dealt with in the drama.

It’s kinda boring that all the patients are cured at the end. I guess it would be bad for Misora if they don’t though.. This is the opposite of the TVB drama Healing Hands where not many patients survive. I would prefer watching this drama rather than Healing Hands. I don’t know why I compare these two dramas. Probably it’s just that that TVB drama pops up in my head when thinking about Ns’ Aoi because these two are about doctors and nurses.
